The day is here! Our newest sling has arrived, aptly called Waves. This baby carrier was inspired by the majestic Pacific Ocean that borders our beautiful British Columbia all up the West Coast. It is a navy and ivory stripe and is a step outside of the Heirloom Carrier family because it's not a silk or linen sling, but actually a fabric blend.
Waves is compiled of 55% Hemp and 45% Cotton. This was an interesting choice for me because I never envisioned stepping outside of the linen or silk family ever. The reason I decided to do this was because I wanted a little something special to bring to the table. It's almost like a special-edition sling, if you will.
Hemp, like linen, is made from the flax plant. It is naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, offering great UV protection. Just like both of our linen and silk ring slings, it adapts to the weather beautifully and helps with thermo-regulation. It is extremely durable and naturally resistant to mold, dirt, and mildew. It is breathable and softens with use. It is not a very soft fibre on its own, which is why I went with a cotton blend.
Cotton is a natural fibre that we're all familiar with. It is very soft and breathable. It is such a versatile fabric and keeps the body cool in summer and warm in winter because it is a good heat conductor. It is hypoallergenic and feels lovely against the skin.
Hemp and cotton together make for a beautiful sling. They complement each other, resulting in a soft, easy-to-wear-in, and breathable baby carrier for you and your linen one.
This special Heirloom Carrier ring sling is visually appealing, so fashionable, and easy to use. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it for you!
